2025 ACA Blitz (Lightning) Interclubs Regulations

Eligibility

This is a tournament between teams of players from each of the 8 ACA member clubs that may enter up to 6 players each who would form the club’s team. Clubs may apply to have additional players if there is space due to some club(s) not participating or not taking up their full quota. Number of players per club cannot exceed half the total number of players in the tournament. Players in the team list (list of a club’s players) must be members of the team’s club and cannot represent another club in any other ACA tournament.

Format

This is an “Arena” style tournament where players are teamed according to the club they represent. The tournament is run as an individual Swiss of 15 rounds with pairings between players from the same club avoided if possible. Sum of top 4 scoring players in a club form the club’s “team” score for a tournament.

Players swiss numbers

Player swiss numbers are determined through the following rating priority.

  1. FIDE blitz
  2. FIDE standard
  3. NZCF rapid
  4. NZCF standard

Ratings are from the relevant published rating list that is current at start of tournament.

Time Control

Blitz. 3 minutes per player plus 2 seconds increment per move.

Games would be FIDE rated if possible.

Scoring System

Team standings would be determined by the sum of top 4 scoring players in a club’s game points.

Any ties are broken through tiebreaks in the following order:

  1. sum of top 5 scoring players in a club’s game points.
  2. sum of top 6 scoring players in a club’s game points.

Tournament administration software would be Vega that would perform all calculations.
